Last week-end Nastya and I went to see The Bremen Town Musicians, a musical comedy

produced on the occasion of the 40^th anniversary of the Soviet cartoon  that every Russian speaker knows and (as I’m sure) loves since their childhood.

Ainsi que le dessin animé, ce spectacle a seulement quelques traits de base communs avec le conte original, c’est-à-dire que parmi ses personnages, qu’il y a les animaux musiciens et la même scène chez les voleurs, mais après, c’est un autre conte, plus long et amusant pour les enfants de tous les âges, les ados et même les adultes.

So, I don’t know if the whole humanity is really interested in my attitude to its entity. Let me keep it secret for a while. But I certainly know that some day, they will ask me some stupid questions, such as: “Why did you start to learn Italian?” and “How did you do to speak (and/or write) it better than Italians themselves?!” You see, I can predict it, because I have already had to answer such questions – never about my English, but about my French. The few English or American persons I spoke to on the net (many years ago) found that my manner of writing was too bookish. So I deduced that English was the most difficult language in the world and no foreigner was able to learn it well enough.

Moi: ce que je ne pourrais probablement jamais comprendre, c’est l’amour ou la haine pour l’humanité entière. Dostoievski évoque l’amour, D.H. Lawrence, la haine. Conclusion : quand je l’aurai compris, je deviendrai sans doute un grand écrivain. Mais tant que cela (ne) se réalise (pas), il faut que je m’engage à interroger l’humanité si mon attitude l’intéresse vraiment... Et si mon attitude l’intéresse, comment ne pas aimer une humanité tellement gentille et attentive ? :-))

Depuis l’installation de ce “monument” l’année dernière, notre parc est facile à reconnaître. J’ai été contente de le distinguer aussitôt dans la communauté « Moya Moskva » (ma Moscou) où on poste des photos de cette ville ; Nastya l’a remarqué à la télé aussi.

I don’t even know if I like it or not. Children love to climb it, but I doubt if it was erected with this purpose. This decoration is a symbol, but of what? Can you guess?

Купила курс Italiano Platinum. Диск оказался старым знакомцем. То есть, был у меня где-то такой же, но курс французского, только когда тот попал мне в руки, я уже была на приличном уровне и им не пользовалась. Но этот у меня пока – единственный источник итальянской речи.

Итак, что сказать про этот курс, чтобы не начать ругаться сразу и громко?

Если знаете какие-нибудь хорошие курсы, допустим, английского, но которые существуют также для других языков – подскажите, плиз. 

I also tried several multimedia courses of English, many years ago already. There were many stupid programs, too, yet, it was much easier to find really good ones in English, starting from a very old phonetical program (called something like “Lessons of professor Higgins”) or “Reward” (for nearly all levels). There, you really have methodically correct lessons including grammar, phonetics, vocabulary exercises, as well as short videos. This course is rather serious, and if there are games, I hardly remember them. Maybe they are included into the interactive part, as, by means of this disc, you have a choice of additional options by Internet, such as correspondance with a teacher who will correct exercises untreatable by a computer. I would be only happy to find similar courses for French and Italian, but – alas - it is really difficult.

Маленькая радость: купила самоучитель итальянского.  Посмеялась, читая итальянский алфавит, к которому в учебнике дана русская транскрипция:

а, би, чи, ди, э, эффэ, джи, акка, и, и лунга, эллэ, эммэ, эннэ, о, пи, ку, эррэ, эссэ, ти, у, ву (ви), доппьо ву, икс, и греко (ипсилон), дзэтта

Как говорится, найдите эннэ-ное количество различий ;)

Speaking of the Italian alphabet in the Russian part of this entry – because, first of all, in my textbook, it is transcripted with cyrillic letters - I remembered that, as English was my first foreign language, I still know very well its alphabet, since school, but… not so sure about the French one. Especially, I can confuse the pronunciation of J and G. Sometimes, it is embarrassing and it makes my daughter laugh. For me, it only feels bizarre, especially because I normally feel more at ease at French now. But I can do nothing, the English ABC was learnt “too well” :))

Nastya étudie l’anglais à l’école. Je ne suis pas trop ses progrès dans cette langue en me contentant de savoir ses notes. Je ne voulais pas du tout qu’elle étudie l’anglais à partir de la première année, mais comme ça fait partie du programme, rien à faire. La chose que je remarque quand-même, c’est qu’elle n’assimile pas très facilement la prononciation de l’anglais qui normalement ne pose pas de problèmes pour les Russes qui ont une bonne oreille (elle l’a). Mais après le français, ça change en devenant plus difficile. Maintenant, ma propre prononciation en anglais... Oh, comment est-elle ? J’ai de mauvais pressentiments. :-/

Voglio comprendere come fare perché non confondere le lingue straniere. E’ difficile, a partire dell'alfabeto.

Хороший сериал :-) На редкость добрый, милый, смешной и неглупый. Хотя бы тем, что затрагивает многие житейские проблемы, для которых всегда находится неожиданное, пусть и гротескное решение. Сколько уж он идет, а не надоедает — ни мне, ни моему ребенку. И всякий раз поднимает настроение. Я рада, что он есть.

Depuis quelques années déjà, la série russe « Les filles de papa » est diffusée à la télévision ici. Il m’arrive très rarement de m’attacher à un film qui n’a pas de fin. Les séries, je les trouve le plus souvent cruelles, insupportablement sottes ou ennuyeuses. C’est donc une exception unique ou presque. En France, je n’ai vu rien de pareil et cela me manquait un peu. Il s’agit d’une famille dont les parents sont séparés et où il y a cinq filles qui vivent tantôt avec leur père, tantôt avec leur mère. Cette situation paraît triste et difficile – mais non, leur vie est gaie. Improbablement gaie, bien sûr, mais c’est ce qui se pardonne, parce que presque chaque jour, ils nous font rire et remontent le moral.

“Dad’s daughters”. I don’t think that this pun is translatable into English or French. Because the original Russian expression implied by this title is “Mommy’s son”, which means a coddled effeminated man. Is there anything like this in English or/and French? My dictionary doesn’t know or pretends to ignore it :-)

Cocco di mamma. Si deve ringraziare italiano per questa espressione perché esiste in questa lingua, come in russo. ;)

Даже не задумываясь начала изучать новый язык с глагола. И тут же вспомнилось – сколько же я видела курсов и учебников, особенно детских, предлагающих массу существительных по разным темам и обещающих, соответственно, владение языком во многих жизненных сферах!

А что прикажете делать? Разве уважающий себя учитель пойдет на какие-нибудь курсы иностранного языка?

Хотя кто-то, может, и пойдет. Но дайте-ка мне для начала помучаться самой. И вас заодно помучать. Под катом я собрала то, что накопала по гуглу в поиске наглядных примеров, иллюстрирующих спряжение глагола «знать».

«Sappiamo ciò che siamo o siamo ciò che sembriamo?»

Il n’est même pas obligatoire de comprendre le sens de cette phrase pour sourire, non ? :) Comme elle est chantante ! J’ai surfé un peu sur Google pour trouver des phrases avec toutes les formes du verbe « sapere » (savoir) au temps présent. Ainsi, je cherche à remémorer les choses.

I don’t know if this teach-yourself method will be efficient. I only know that there is no perfect method of learning languages. No one of them is absolutely rotten, either. I also think that one really needs a teacher while learning the first language. When you have already had this experience, the main direction must be evident and clear. Saying this “must be”… I only hope that it is so. Time will tell.

PS: Trying to learn the third language and, at the same time, being especially afraid to lose the first two, I find the Live Journal my best support by now. I don’t even imagine a situation in reality where I could practice all this at the same time! :)

Чужим незнанием какого-либо языка – как моего родного, так и иностранного - я обычно не пользуюсь. Зря, наверно, но есть у меня такой принцип.

1. Si tu te demandes si tu n’es pas trop grosse, il est bien possible que ce soit vrai. Ne me le demande pas, je refuse de répondre.
2. Si tu as envie de quelque chose, il suffit de me le dire, tout simplement.
Comprends enfin : nous sommes simples.

It’s only my translation from Russian of a joke I liked.

Never in my life have I had a gramme of overweight, rather the contrary. And if I have 30 pairs of shoes, 28 of them should have been thrown away ten years ago. I’m not a fan of handbags, either.

No man of those who were with me was interested in football. Besides, I have seen someone who adores shopping.

So, this is not to be taken literally. Not at all.

But tell me WHY do I recognize every male being in this short story? :)) It is so simply and awfully true, isn’t it? :))

It’s been raining all the time. Heavily. Cats, dogs, cows, whatever. For hours and days. Since the day before yesterday or even earlier. I love this rain. Though it doesn’t make me wish to go out. « Tombe, tombe, tombe, la pluie, tout le monde est à l’abri... » C’est peu imaginable, mais on dit qu’il fait toujours chaud à Marseille ! Aussi chaud qu’on se baigne. C’est incroyable, vu d’ici... Мне не жаль, что лето прошло. Люблю осень. Пока не наступит ноябрь, всегда холодный, промозглый, но еще бесснежный. Вот тогда и запоем: «Ну когда же это кончится? Скорей бы снег уже выпал!» A proposito, nevica mai in Italia? Io so che raramente. Solo in montagna, penso. Poveri italiane. Poor me to have taken so much time to write this!
 

Как часто в разговорной речи (или письменной сокращенной: к примеру, записках, оставленных домашним) в предложениях опускается подлежащее? И вообще – можно ли его опускать-то? Если да, в каких временах и видах?

(1) A question about English: after an argument with my friend, the following question has arisen. I’m nearly sure that “no”, she insists on “yes”. Finally, as a teacher, I think I must know the answer for sure. English speakers, help!

Can the subject of a sentence be omitted in an informal speech, written and oral? If so, in what cases (tenses, aspects)?

For example, I suppose you can say: “Thinking about you”. But you won’t say: “Have been thinking about you all day long”? Is it possible to write: “Don’t know” or “Doesn’t know”, if the person of the verb is evident from the context ?

(2) Une question sur le français: d’après une discussion avec ma copine.

Est-ce possible que le sujet de la phrase soit omis, dans le langage informel ? « Vais au cinéma » ; « Comprends pas » ; « Suis pressé(e) », « A acheté du pain » ; « Peux pas résoudre ce problème »... Il me semble que c’est possible, mais rarement, dans certains cas. Mais lesquels ?
 

Una lingua straniera è come una bambina : più piccolo è, più cure esige. Ma anche bisogna pensare ai ragazzi di età più grande...

Ne prenez pas ça au sérieux, mais je pense quand-même à m’occuper de l’italien. Enfin, de l’essayer. Je ne sais pas où trouver la place pour la troisième langue étrangère – ni dans le temps, ni dans ma tête. Mais l’intérêt reste. Finalement, je pense, pourquoi pas... En essayant de composer des phrases ou de lire et citer des maximes, par exemple; petit à petit, un peu chaque jour... ;) Sinon, plutôt, dans chaque posting.

No, it doesn’t mean that you will have to “read” my posts in Italian here :-)) My priorities are French and English, anyway. But I guess it’ll be amusing to try to write something in Italian, too. It is a beautiful language, besides, often recognizable, understandable by both English and French speakers. Some of my friends know that I want to learn it since… in fact, long ago, already! Some years, for sure.

Трудно себе представить, чтобы туристу, впервые оказавшемуся на Елисейских Полях, не захотелось cпеть «Aux Champs Elysées». И я, конечно, не исключение, а скорее более, чем правило :) Часто так бывает, что песни потом связываются в памяти именно с этим моментом или периодом. Поэтому Монмартр и «La Bohème» для меня неразделимы, пусть с тех пор уже прошли годы.

Finally, some questions to everybody, starting with Francophones.

1. What other “geographical” songs could you recommend to me? That is, songs that could be associated with cities, towns and provinces? I mean all France, including (and especially) the places I haven’t seen yet. Strasbourg, Bordeaux, Nantes, Metz… ;) Or, for example, Nice. It is so popular among tourists, but… has it ever been poetized ?! Really, I’m dying of curiosity :-)))

2. I keep it secret, but England is also a country that has some chances to be my favourite one. Just let me know if there is some good music (songs) there. Because the only English group I have loved, besides a few songs of the Beatles, it’s the “Queen”. I know nothing more ;-/

3. Do you have any similar souvenirs of yours? A song or a piece of music associated with some country? Do not hesitate to share them with me, I love it :-)
